Have you ever thought about bath salts? I’m not talking about the drug. (Please don’t put that stuff into your bath. It’s your body, your choice, but I can’t imagine good things would come of it.) I’m talking about a simple addition to your bath designed to help ease aches and pains, with an aromatherapeutic additive of your choice.
I’d never given it much thought. They’re easy to buy in the store, and I usually like my self-care to not require a ton of effort beforehand. I saw a few recipes while I was procrastinating on Pinterest er, doing valuable research online, and it looked incredibly easy. Furthermore, it turned out to be significantly cheaper than buying bath salts in the store.
All you need are Epsom salts, an essential oil, and a jar. I had larger jars, that fit quite a bit of salts. You can feel free to use less if your heart so desires.
Materials:
Essential oils (I used sage, tea tree, and chamomile)
Jars
- Combine the Epsom salts and ONE essential oil in the jar. The most popular ratio I saw online was 2 cups Epsom salts to 5-6 drops essential oil. Your mileage may vary if the oil you’re using is exceptionally potent. I layered my additions until I didn’t have much more room in the jar, so the oils wouldn’t be overwhelming and would mix evenly with the salts.
- Close the jar and shake well.
- Label the jar with the type of oil you used.
- Use as needed in a warm bath. I’ve seen different quantities called for in a bath – I think it probably depends on how much water is in your tub.
